Welcome! We’re so glad you found us!
We’re Kirby and Taryn—owners of Dune Dwellings. Kirby manages the restoration of the homes, and Taryn manages the decor and design. Together with our management team, we’ve hosted thousands of guests over the last decade. These rentals are our “American Dream,” now realized… We couldn’t be more grateful to do what we love!
Lake Michigan holds a special place in our hearts: We met on the lake, got engaged on the lake, and got married on the lake. Shortly after our wedding, we spent a weekend biking and hiking along Lake Michigan’s shoreline in the Indiana Dunes… It didn’t take long to decide that we wanted to live here.
After jumping the border from Illinois to officially call Indiana “home,” we began hosting guests in our own house and realized how much we enjoyed providing space for others to explore the area, too. It’s so fun to watch visitors enjoy the same attractions in the area that made us move here in the first place. We truly believe that Lake Michigan/the Indiana Dunes are the best kept secret of the Midwest.
We live about 20 minutes from Lake Michigan, on a farm with our four kids (and what Kirby considers “way too many chickens,” while Taryn would gladly add more). Our farm provides peace amidst the chaos, forces us to slowdown, and motivates us to create equally comfortable spaces for others in our rentals. We hope our guests will feel relaxed in our thoughtfully designed homes, too, so that they can fully enjoy everything the area has to offer.
We are big on supporting local businesses, investing our time and energy into where we live, and shopping “small” wherever possible. Planting our roots in this area was easily one of the best decisions we ever made, and having little kids has made us realize how quickly time goes by. So here’s your encouragement to seize the day and to take that trip—and to hopefully stay with us! Whether you’re here for a few days, weeks, or months, we’d love to help find a property that perfectly fits your needs.
Our ultimate goal is for the fun to last beyond our walls: for families to create memories along the beaches of Lake Michigan, for couples to celebrate anniversaries at local wineries, and for friends to reunite around backyard bonfires, making up for lost time.
